48 years old

From Newark, Delaware

He began thinking about the priesthood from a very young age. The desire ebbed and flowed throughout his life. In 1989, at the age of 20, he experienced a strong renewal of his Catholic faith. He decided to take a break from college to clear his mind and soul and have an adventure, so he hiked the entire Appalachian Trail. Upon finishing the trek he attended the Franciscan University of Steubenville, OH and studied philosophy and theology. After completion of the degree he worked for four years in the carpentry trade. The call to the priesthood came back with full force and he felt irresistibly drawn to the seminary. After 6 years of seminary formation in Rome, Denver and Washington DC, he was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Washington in 2003.

Fr. Young has served as a priest at St. Mary of the Mills in Laurel, MD; St. Bartholomew’s in Bethesda, MD; St. Mary’s in Bryantown, MD; Our Lady’s Church at Medley’s Neck in Leonardtown, MD.; and is currently pastor of Ascension in Bowie, MD

His favorite things about being a priest are: preaching and teaching the faith; hearing confessions; and visiting the schools.

His last time playing organized baseball was in Babe Ruth at the age of 15, where his team won the championship and he made the all star team.

Favorite team: Orioles

Favorite player: Mike Schmidt

  1. Father Young…
We miss you! It is great to see that you are still as dynamic and creative as ever. If I ever get back up to Southern MD, I’ll make sure to catch a game. Or at least a sermon. 🙂 RN

  2. Fr Larry, great website. Enjoyed seeing pics of the team. What a great idea to get your colleagues together for some competitive fun. Thanks for sharing.
