He began thinking about the priesthood from a very young age. The desire ebbed and flowed throughout his life. In 1989, at the age of 20, he experienced a strong renewal of his Catholic faith. He decided to take a break from college to clear his mind and soul and have an adventure, so he hiked the entire Appalachian Trail. Upon finishing the trek he attended the Franciscan University of Steubenville, OH and studied philosophy and theology. After completion of the degree he worked for four years in the carpentry trade. The call to the priesthood came back with full force and he felt irresistibly drawn to the seminary. After 6 years of seminary formation in Rome, Denver and Washington DC, he was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Washington in 2003.
